Indoor Air Filtration Options and Services
Most heating and cooling systems use basic filters to stop dirt and dust from passing through it. But most common filters can only remove 3-5% of particles, those that are 3 microns in size or above. That means 95-97% of contaminants—those smaller than 3 microns—get through, damaging your heating and cooling equipment and potentially causing health problems for your family.
To help boost the indoor air quality of your home, you can employ several types of air filters and air filtration systems. If you or someone in your home suffers from allergies, hay fever, or other breathing difficulties, Wagner can help you find the correct air filtration system to help you.
When choosing an air filter, you need ensure it maintains airflow to and from your system so that your heating or cooling system continues to run efficiently. Also, look for air filters that have high-efficiency ratings and pick up as many particulates as possible.
Types of Air Filters
There are three types of air filters available to help you clean your home:
- One-inch filters – Found at most grocery stores, they’re good at catching larger particles that are more than 3 microns. You need to read the label and remember that most household particles are less than one micron.
- 4-5 inch filters – These filters are better at catching contaminants that are less than 3 microns, but particles less than one micron in size still get through.
- Electrostatic filters – A safe, static charge traps smaller airborne particles—sometimes less than 1 micron— like a magnet. They can sometimes restrict airflow and be tough to clean, though.
